Meredith Davies was the first teacher to start a weekly 5Rhythms class in Melbourne in 2003. Five years later Madhuma Thompson began a second weekly class and initiated a monthly Sweat Your Prayers, and now more than a decade later, with Meredith’s husband David Juriansz joining the teaching field, they have grown a huge dancing tribe. The weekly ‘Tuesday Tsunami Wave’ in North Fitzroy may be one of the biggest weekly 5R classes in the world ~ a pulsating, deep ride for over 150 dancers. With sometimes 6 classes a week, workshops with international teachers, a growing roster of local teachers and more in training, Melbourne is a vibrant 5Rhythms dance community.
Heartfelt: A Workshop from the Heart
A 5Rhythms® journey from Waves to Heartbeat
What is Heart asking of you? Are you listening?
What is the shape of your Heart’s dance? How does Heart dance us?
In this one-day workshop, we move from sensation to emotion, from cellular awareness to heartfelt expression. Beginning in the terrain of Waves, we root ourselves in the body—tracking sensation, breath, and rhythm. From here, we open to the emotional landscape of Heartbeat, where feeling becomes emotion, and we put it in motion.
We’ll work with our soft centres—the tender, responsive parts of us with stories of vulnerability, and power. Through somatic explorations and 5Rhythms practice, we’ll re-awaken the intelligence of the heart, blood, organs and nervous system to support emotional inquiry, transformation and making meaning.
This workshop invites you to:
Deepen body awareness through movement and sensation
Meet the five emotional gateways: fear, anger, sadness, joy, and compassion
Explore how your heart moves, feels, responds, and restores
Discover the strength of softness and the clarity within emotion
Be witnessed as you unfold from the inside out
Let your body speak. Let your heart move. Let your dance be heartfelt.
All willing movers are welcome.

Gateways: Grief & Gratitude
A 5Rhythms® Heartbeat & Trauma Sensitive Mindfulness Retreat
with Lucia Horan (USA)
“Grief and love are sisters, woven together from the beginning. Their kinship reminds us that there is no love that does not contain loss and no loss that is not a reminder of the love we carry for what we once held close.” Francis Weller
Through the 5Rhythms ritual dance and trauma sensitive mindfulness, you will be guided through the terrain of the heart. This weekend retreat will be an opportunity to tend to the unattended. We invite you into a circle of safety to hold together what is too big to be held alone. Lucia has spent her life dedicated to understanding the nature of the heart. Her specialized work around grief-wellness is rooted in a lifetime of personal development and study. She comes to share this with you from a place of love as we invest in the path of liberation and compassion. We hope to see you there!
This workshop is designed for everyone, of every age and shape.
We recommend you have attended some 5Rhythms Waves classes prior to attendance. All workshop hours are prerequisites for the 5Rhythms® teacher training.
